On July 9th, 2009 airman Colton went into David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA. He was to receive a routine gall bladder removal procedure. A resident was allowed to perform the surgery and nicked Colton's aortic valve. The surgical team waited two hours too long to send Colton to a vascular specialist at UC Davis Medical Center, only a 40 minute drive away. Because of this, both of Colton's legs have been amputated.
